Organising a team building event is one thing. Making sure it’s original, memorable and successful is quite another. Moodmaker would like to give you a few tips drawn from its experience to make your team building a success.
Choose a good date for your team event.
Your teambuilding will necessarily take place when your colleagues are available. So choose a date that suits your team, taking into account holidays or busy work periods. A teambuilding event with low attendance misses its target.
Thursdays, Fridays or Saturdays are the days when almost all companies want to organise their teambuilding. Think about organising your team event on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday. You’ll have more choice in terms of availability, both from the event agency and the venues.
Choose a team-building activity suited to your colleagues and your objectives.
You know your colleagues best and know what type of team-building activity would suit them. Sporty or more creative? Culinary or more adventurous? Think carefully.
It’s also important to keep an eye on the objectives of the teambuilding. If you have a very busy period behind you, it may be preferable to choose relaxed, non-committal teambuilding activities, where the emphasis is on socialising. At the start of the year, teambuilding is more likely to be presented as a kick-off. You can therefore opt for a more stimulating teambuilding concept.
When choosing a teambuilding, don’t be guided by budgetary considerations, but keep a close eye on the target group and objectives.
Leave room for inactivity during the company outing.
Don’t overload your team day. Of course, team building is also a time to relax as a group, where colleagues have time to express themselves in a context different from the usual working atmosphere.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that team building is just a day off. As a company tool, a team building day is an important element in creating a good atmosphere within the company.
Always organise a debriefing of your teambuilding.
This can be done informally, but it’s actually better to organise a formal debriefing. Send a short questionnaire to each participant. What did you think of the choice of teambuilding activity? The choice of venue? The caterer? The services provided by the events agency?
This survey will provide you with valuable information for organising your next teambuilding activity.
Have fun on your next team day!
